Kitsap Women's Summit 2026
THANK YOU for participating in my breakout session at the Kitsap Women’s Summit!
Here’s a review of the information we explored.
For more resources and opportunities, and to stay in touch, please complete the short form at the bottom of this page.
How your WHY can guide your WHAT, inform your HOW, and anchor your WHO
I know, that’s a long title! But here’s where we’ll start:
Stand up and shake all the energy out that you’ve been holding onto today.
Next, sit back down, feet on the floor, hands in your lap.
Close your eyes and visualize a door in front of you. It can look like whatever you want.
On the other side of that door is the world as you want to see it; the world you want to leave for our children and their children.
In your mind’s eye, walk up to the door, open it, and walk through it.
- What do you see?
- What does it look like?
- What are people in this world doing and saying?
- What are the possibilities for everyone in that world?
Now capture what you visualized and complete this sentence:
The world I want to leave our children and their children is one in which…
You can use key words, concepts, or a narrative — whatever works best for you.
THIS IS YOUR WHY.
(NOTE: As an example, I’ve added my own WHY, WHAT, HOW and WHO below, after the form.)
Next, think about:
- What has to happen or be in place in order for this world to exist?
- What skills are necessary for people to have?
- What do people need to know or need to do?
Now complete this sentence:
In order to create this world, people need to…
You can use bullet points, or write a paragraph; again, whatever works for you.
THIS IS YOUR WHAT.
Now it’s time to bring this closer to home — to YOU.
- How does your professional life help you work toward building this world?
- What activities are you involved with in your community that takes us toward the world you want to see?
Complete and add this sentence to your ongoing description:
My professional commitment to contribute to the realization of this world is to…
This can include the work you currently do, how you volunteer in your community. or perhaps the work you want to be doing.
THIS IS YOUR HOW.
Okay, let’s bring it in even closer to home and to YOU.
- Who do you need to BE every day to build this world?
- What choices do you need to make every day to work towards this world?
- How do you need to show up in your personal and professional life?
Complete and add this sentence to your ongoing description:
My personal commitment to make this world a reality is to…
This can include what you think, say, or do, or how you treat yourself and others.
THIS IS YOUR WHO.
Ready to put it all together?
The world I want to leave our children is one in which… (your WHY)
In order to create this world, people need to… (your WHAT)
My professional commitment to make this world a reality is to… (your HOW)
My personal commitment to build this world is to… (your WHO)
Now what do I do with all this?
Here are some ideas for how you can put all this into practice and know you’re working towards the building the world you want to leave our children.
Start your day focused:
- Review your TO-BE list (your personal commitment) to have it top of mind
- Review your TO-DO list (your professional commitment) to plan your day
End-of-the-day review:
- Where did I do my best with these things today?
- Where could I have done a bit better?
- How did I help build the world I want to see?
- What can I do more of or less of tomorrow?
Decision-making:
- Will the different options move me toward or away from this world?
- Of the options that will move me toward this world, which choice will keep me in integrity with my true authentic self?
When life throws you a curve ball:
- STEP 1: B R E A T H E
- STEP 2: Take care of yourself
- STEP 3: Ask yourself – What response will keep me true to myself and on my path?
Ready for a deeper dive?
I invite you to stay in the loop by completing the form below.
Let me know how I can help you!
And I’m always interested in hearing your thoughts, comments and questions.
As an example, here’s my WHY, WHAT, HOW and WHO:
The world I want to leave our children is one in which each person feels safe, valued and
connected, because that’s when we can accomplish meaningful work together.
In order to achieve this, people need to know how to build relationships that are sustained by trust, and we all treat each other with mutual respect, compassion, and kindness.
My professional commitment to building this world is to:
- Show culture-focused Leaders (especially newly promoted Leaders) how to build healthy
relationships AND get stuff done by mastering “coaching conversations” at work. - Help people say what they need to say in a way that builds trust and collaboration.
My personal commitment to this world is to:
- Always choose words that communicate respect and gratitude
- Always view people and situations though the lens of compassion
- Always leave someone feeling better about him/her/themself and the world
