Book Recommendations

The Three Laws of Performance: Rewriting the future of your organization and your life by Steve Zaffron & Dave Logan

I have read through this book many times, and feel this is some of the most powerful work any organization can navigate through — especially companies who are ready for a solid turn-around stragtegy.

Start With WHY: How great leaders inspire everyone to take action by Simon Sinek

Simon’s inside-out approach to connecting with people reaches far beyond an organization’s brand or marketing message. This is important work for everyone to do — to successfully articulate your WHY, both professionally and personally.

The Power Path: The Shaman’s way to succeed in business and life by José & Lena Stephens

This is another book I’ve studied for many years, and I appreciate the thorough research the authors conducted to show how the rules of power according to shamanic tradition (NOT how we usually think about power) apply to both business and to life.

How to Say Anything to Anyone: A guide to business relationships that really work by Shari Harley

I tell all my clients and coaching students about this book because Shari outlines a simple and direct approach to confidently tackle what most of us go to great lengths to avoid: difficult conversations. Her sample scripts are priceless.

Google’s Project Oxygen

This multi-year study shows definitively that integrating coaching skills into a leader’s toolbox is the most powerful and effective way for that leader to be optimally successful in leading a team of people, whether that team is 2 people or 200. For my own take on the importance of the project, read An Open Letter to All Leaders.

Become a Certified Coach

If you’re interested in either being an internal coach for your company or in building your own coaching business, the 22-week Certified Coach Program at Coach Training Alliance is the most budget-friendly way to accomplish that. Curious and want to check it out? Register for the free Becoming a Coach Workshop. Or feel free to contact me if you have questions about the training, because I’ve been on the CTA faculty since early 2002.

HeartMath Institute

The decades of research behind the work of the HeartMath Instutute suggests that we can bring our physical, mental and emotional systems into balanced alignment with our heart’s intuitive guidance. This scientific ‘heart-forward’ approach to our health and wellbeing resonates with my years of learning different meditation practices, and I’ve incorporated many of the concepts into my own work.
